The Mountains and the Hills of Israel
Ezekiel 36 contains a solemn word for today. It is the word of the L-rd to the mountains and the hills of Israel.
"Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Surely in the fire of My jealousy I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who appropriated My land for themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and with scorn of soul, to drive it out for a prey."
"Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel and say to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys, "Thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and in My wrath because you have endured the insults of the nations.' Ezekiel 36:5&6
Who is Edom? What insults have the mountains and hills suffered by the nations? Edom is a usual reference to the inhabitants East of the Jordan, the Jordanian Arabs, called by the media, Palestinians. These intruders upon the land have appropriated the land of G-d for a prey. You see, with the stroke of his pen, Winston Churchill created the nation of Transjordan from the land partitioned to the Jewish people as their homeland. Later, the League of Nations confirmed this action. Before that action of 1921, all of the people who lived in this land were referred to as Palestinians: Arabs, Jews and Druze. The nation of Transjordan became Jordan but the people who received 78% of the land were never satisfied with even a tiny Jewish state and so the "Palestinian Refugees" were born. Created to pluck the heartstrings of people around the world and to gain sympathy for their only cause: the complete and total destruction of the Jewish people and the Jewish nation, Israel.
What insults have the mountains and hills suffered? Insults are usually levied by the calling of names. We insult people by calling them something that G-d does not. The mountains and hills of Israel are called Judea and Samaria by G-d; by the media, they are called "The West Bank" or "Occupied Territories." G-d will not be mocked! He promises to return the people of the land to the land of the people and then to return the people in the land to their G-d.
Ezekiel 36:15 declares: "I will not let you hear insults from the nations anymore, nor will you bear disgrace from the peoples any longer, nor will you cause your nation to stumble any longer," declares the Lord GOD.'"
So shall the land be vindicated and made a reproach no more. But this is just the beginning of the work promised in this prophecy of the
L-rd. Read on, Ezekiel 36:23-30 promises: "Then the nations will know that I am the LORD," declares the Lord GOD, "when I prove Myself holy among you in their sight. "For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land. "Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. "You will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be My people, and I will be your God. "Moreover, I will save you from all your uncleanness; and I will call for the grain and multiply it, and I will not bring a famine on you. "I will multiply the fruit of the tree and the produce of the field, so that you will not receive again the disgrace of famine among the nations.
This is what G-d has begun in Israel. With the rebirth of this nation and with the establishment of so many Messianic ministries in the land to teach and to disciple new Jewish believers, G-d is doing just what He promised.
What is your part, Church? You can, no, you must pray for and support the nation of Israel. I know that because you are reading this, you have an interest in this work and in seeing all of Israel saved. But there is so much more that you can do. You can support Messianic Jewish work in Israel. Yes, we need your financial support, but so do many, many others here. You can also let your national officials know that you will give them no rest until they move the US Embassy to its rightful place in Jerusalem. You can tell them that to support the giving away of land to those who supported the Nazis in WWII and who are committed today to the destruction of not only Israel but also of Christianity will not be tolerated. You can support ministries like The Ebenezer Emergency Fund who last year brought 20,000 Jews out of Russia, into Israel; 25% of all such immigrants in 1999. You can pray like our lives depend on it. "Who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:13)
